IFLA Changes Venue for 2010 Conference

The economic crisis and limited local funding have forced the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) to relocate the 2010 World Library and Information Congress (WLIC) planned for Brisbane, Australia, to Goeteborg, Sweden.rnIn separate announcements on July 8, 2009, IFLA expressed disappointment at the loss of the Australian venue and thanked the Swedish library community for offering an alternative. Not only was funding for the Australian venue hard to come by, but the IFLA governing board predicted that fewer delegates would travel to Australia than to more centrally located Sweden. In addition, the congress in Goteborg has guaranteed local funding for the event.
