Opposition has been growing steadily as the date nears for the judicial approval of the settlement of Google Book Search with the Association of American Publishers and The Authors Guild. But in late April, a federal judge postponed the deadline to Sept. 4 and moved the court hearing of the case to Oct. 7. Reports indicate that the U.S. Department of Justice opened an inquiry into whether the proposed settlement violates antitrust laws.
