Smartphone Ownership on the Rise

More than half of Americans surveyed (56%) claim that they possess a smartphone, according to "Smartphone Ownership-2013 Update," a report from the Pew Research Center's Internet & American Life Project. This is the first time in the 2 years the Pew Research Center has been tracking smartphone adoption that a majority of surveyed Americans reported owning an iPhone, Android device, BlackBerry, or Windows phone. Although smartphone adoption has risen across the board, the percentage of smartphone ownership varies by age. Younger adults (25 to 34 years old) are the most likely to possess a smartphone (81%), closely followed by those aged 18 to 24 (79%). Seniors (adults 65 and older) show "relatively low adoption levels compared with other demographic groups": Only 18% of seniors now own smartphones.
