In a NewsLink Spotlight article last fall, I noted that the contentious Apple-Samsung patent dispute highlighted America's troubled patent system, particularly in relation to granting software patents. I also mentioned some highly visible patent lawsuits against media outlets by so-called patent trolls (companies that don't make any products or services but just use patents to extract license fees).
