摘要

Artificial intelligence (AI) continues to offer the potential for great technological advances within a nearly infinite number of scenarios. However, as much as some would like to have us believe otherwise, there are still myriad glitches to be addressed. And as with all technology, not everyone who is employing AI is doing so with good intentions. A column from the Summer issue of Big Data Quarterly (BDQ) looks at how to reduce the downsides that persist, while a column from the July/August issue of Online Searcher applauds the transformational aspects of AI.AI can be used for malicious or accidentally error-laden endeavors. Kim-berly Nevala begins her BDQ Governing Guidelines column, titled "AI Governance: Cultivating Critical Thinking," with this statement: "There is, to the best of my knowledge, no way to constrain base AI technologies in ways that preclude use by bad actors. ... Nor is it possible for poor outcomes by well-intentioned individuals to be entirely prevented." To lessen the potential for such results, the most important output of your AI governance program should be the capacity for critical thinking.
