摘要

Chinese Media, Global Contexts is the latest volume in Chin-Chuan Lee's Chinese media series. Like its predecessors Voices of China: The Interplay of Politics and Journalism (1990), China's Media, Media's China (1994), and Power, Money, and Media: Communication Patterns and Bureaucratic Control in Cultural China (2000), this anthology can be heralded as a landmark in research on the Chinese media. The 14-year span covered by Lee's Chinese media series coincided with a period that witnessed the most exciting changes in the Chinese media scene. This allowed Lee and his contributing authors not only to record the transformations but also to theorize about the relationship between the media and societal changes in their unique ways. As a result, readers both familiar and unfamiliar with China's media scene can benefit from the book by gaining insight into the intrinsic changes all media are facing in the globalization process.
