21st Century Challenges to Sharing Information

In a world that has at least 500 million computers, information sharing is critical to the success of academia, industry and government. The advantages of saving time, eliminating human error and automating manual processes are too large to ignore. But in fact, information sharing remains an incredibly challenging problem, mostly due to non-technical issues. In 1590 Sir Frances Bacon said, "Knowledge is Power," a statement that continues to explain the resistance to share, or not share, information.
