学会の役割を考える: 日本植物生理学会が誇る国際学術雑誌Plant and Cell Physiologyの発行を通じて

The Japanese Society of Plant Physiologists (JSPP) was established in 1959 with 208 members and the first issue of Plant and Cell Physiology (PCP) was published later that same year. The aim of the JSPP was to become a partner to the International Association of Plant Physiologists that had been set up by USA, France, India, and other countries in 1954, as well as to create a forum for the exchange of research information amongst plant physiologists working in different research areas, such as those affiliated to University Departments within Science, Agriculture, and Pharmacology Faculties. Since its inception, the JSPP and its membership has grown to approximately 2,400 members, with each member receiving a monthly issue of PCP. PCP is well recognized within the international community (currently in the top 7 % of international plant science journals) and achieved its highest impact factor to date of 4.702 in 2011. The major activities of the JSPP are to organize the annual scientific meeting, support its members, and to promote and publish high quality research in its journal, PCP.%日本植物生理学会は，1959年（昭和34年）に208名の発起人で設立され，同年に英文誌であるPlantandCellPhysiology(PCP)の第1巻第1号が発行された。本学会は，1954年に設立準備が進められた国際植物生理学連合に対応できる日本の学会として，また理学•農学•薬学など，異分野で植物生理学研究に携わる研究者交流の場を提供することを目的とした。以後,50年以上経た現在では,個人会員数は約2,400名，2011年のィンパクトファクターは4.702と，国際的にも認知度が高い植物科学分野の学術雑誌となっている。本学会の現在の目的は設立当初と変わっておらず，会員の研究発表と交流を活性化することと，PCPを刊行し植物生理学分野の学術的成果を世界に発信することである。
