The question "Is innovation sufficient to save a nation in the competitive world marketplace?" arose in a recent discussion I had that included a person who had recently disengaged from their government job where they were required to make proposals for spending government money in support of innovation. "Innovation" is all the buzz word in government and economic circles. If you work in the government and a new top boss is appointed to your department, then word soon comes down requesting proposals for new programs that will help the Nation. More often than not, the premise is that these programs should foster "innovation." So common is the belief that innovation is the royal road to future prosperity that this fundamental premise is never questioned.
