摘要

For hot and dry climates, one indigenous approach is the "toldo" in southern Spain, where whole streets are covered with Roman shade fabric elements hung from building to building. They are deployed when the hot sun is out and retracted in the evenings to cool down the streets. In a hot and dry context, one of the main considerations is keeping the sun off a building that would otherwise absorb heat. In addition, as this type of climate often results in cool nights, thermal change is an important aspect to keep in mind. Mesh fabrics are well suited for this application as they don't trap hot air.
