Business is up this year for Northern Safety Co. Inc.-but so is the number of competitors in the safety distribution field. The increased demand and popularity of safety-related products, especially fall protection equipment and protective clothing, has greatly helped the Utica, N.Y-based company, says Sal Longo, Northern Safety's CEO. "[Protective] has been a fast growing area because of the people working in landscaping areas, highway and commercial construction," he says. "Anyone who is working in or near a road needs high visibility."
