A new patented silicate impregnation process, combined with the accuracy of diamond-tooled tile splitting techniques, has enabled a Swedish company, Techstone AB, to manufacture a range of granite tiles only 4 mm thick. The quest for "superthin" granite tiles - usually defined as being less than 8 mm thick -is one that has obsessed the stone and industrial diamond industries for many years. The reason is obvious, -superthin tiles open up new marketing opportunities for the use of granite tiles.
