摘要

Majority of the non-mulberry silk is produced in eastern and north-eastern states of India. Tasar cocoons are transacted in government regulated cocoon markets, in numbers. Farmers bring their cocoons to the regulated markets and the cocoons are sorted by size, by the farmers/labourers/ reelers. Based on this sorting of cocoons, grades are given as A, B and C, and rates are fixed, accordingly. Manual sorting often leads to mixing of the grades resulting in monetary loss to the farmers. Besides, the process is unscientific, time consuming, labour intensive and not cost-effective. Recently, Central Silk Technological Research Institute (CSTRI), Bangalore has developed an Automatic Tasar Cocoon Separating Machine. This simple device automatically separates the tasar cocoons, based on their size, in to three commercially acceptable grades, as A, B and C. A suitable vibrating mechanism has been provided with the equipment and the tasar cocoons are passed through different sizes of grids which are instrumental in size based sorting.
