ECONOMIC UPLIFTMENT OF TRIBAL WOMEN THROUGH TASAR CULTURE AND ROLE OF NABIS, AN NGO

Khatra Sub-Division is situated in the south-western part of Bankura district at an altitude of 505' MSL bordering Paschim Midnapur and Purulia districts and comprises of eight Development Blocks. Out of these, four blocks namely, Khatra, Hirbandh, Raipur and Ranibandh are the most underdeveloped ones. The population in these blocks is dominated by tribals, and about 40% of them are living below the poverty level. A major part of the area is under forest cover while the rest with undulating rocky soil having no or very less irrigation facilities. There is no industry in these areas and most of the tribal inhabitants earn their livelihood either by collecting and selling forest products or by working as labourers.
