Inm finds favour with tribal farmers of Koraput

Belonging to a non-traditional area with poor socio economic conditions, the tribal farmers of Koraput district in Orissa, practising mulberry sericulture are not aware of the benefit of Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) package of mulberry cultivation which involves the use of reduced chemical fertilizers and more organic manures and bio-fertilizers. In fact, the average annual leaf yield of rainfed mulberry at farmers' level was found to be within the range of 5000-6000 kg/ha/yr which poses a threat for the mulberry sericulture industry of the state. As such, in order to assess the impact of INM package, ten tribal farmers of Lamtaput block having plantations of S1635 mulberry with a spacing of 90 x 90 cm under rainfed conditions, were selected and INM package was adopted in their field for three years.
