Improving Mulberry Wealth in Kashmir Province

In Kashmir province, to address the problem of shortage of quality leaf during late age silkworm rearing, supply of saplings with good survivability to the farmers has been all the more important. Polyhouse technology for raising saplings of prevailing poor rooters resorted to by the SKUAST(K) came handy. Detailed here is the technique of nursery preparation. Mulberry silk production is one of the most important and oldest industries in Jammu & Kashmir; but of late is suffering with low cocoon yield primarily due to nonavailability of quality leaf. The farmers in the region mostly face shortage of leaf during the fifth stage of silkworm rearing and have to go place to place in search of leaf. The leaf transported from distant places largely becomes unacceptable to the silkworms.
