Rich Heritage in Indian Railways

The age old 'heritage' denotes valued objects and qualities such as historic buildings and cultural traditions that have been passed down from previous generations. It signifies things relating to special architectural, historical or natural values that are preserved for the nation. Indian Railways with more than 160 years of rich heritage history presents a wide spectrum of both tangible and intangible heritage. The buildings, the stations, the trains are a vital part of the cultural heritage of Indian Railways (IR). IR occupies an important place within the national heritage spectrum of India. It has not only preserved the Indian Railways' rich heritage but also showcased them over the years. IR has taken endeavouring efforts with a focused approach to safe guard the Indian Railways heritage and also to transmit it intact to future generations.
