Electronic Interlocking in Samastipur Division : Beginning of a New Era

Samastipur Division of East Central Railway has witnessed a radical shift in utilization of technological advancements in interlocking to keep pace with the latest trends. There had always been sequence of modifications and upgradation in interlocking system in this division which has seen, in phase-wise manner, the upward shift from MNI (Modified Non-interlocked System) system of working with lever frames to the commissioning of GKC type panels in middle 90's. LED lights replaced the signal filament lamps and subsequently, a major portion of division got British type PI with full complement of modern signaling equipments like IPS, Datalogger, Axle counters and in some sections UFSBI too. Proliferation of Solar panels for signalling installation ensured a reliable and alternate power source for reducing sole dependency from unstable commercial supply and tough to maintain DG sets. The incremental shifts continued till 2008-09 for system improvement, wherein add-ons to the signalling system were provided for reliability improvement, yard modifications and introduction of additional running lines etc.
