There was a time after initiation of South Eastern Railway, when young railway was popularly called as a coolie railway for its prime focus on freight, even in those formative days SER with all its teething problems did not overlook the needs of daily commuters and bread earners of far-flung suburbs and took care of passenger services within its limited capacity.
