Pioneer in Professional Training

Indian Railways Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (IRIMEE) has the distinction of being the first Centralized Training Institute (CTI) set up on Indian Railways for in-house training of its officers and staff. It was setup in 1888 as 'Technical school' to impart training to Artisans and Trade Apprentices for East India Railway (EIR) Locomotive Workshop Jamalpur. SCRA scheme had started during 1927 and citizens of India were recruited as officers under this scheme. The administrative control of the Technical School was transferred to the Railway Board on 1st April, 1974, and was renamed as 'The Indian Railways Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering' (IRIMEE). The training of IRSME probationers was centralized under the control of Director, IRIMEE from 1988. In August 2018, IRIMEE attained the distinction of obtaining ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 50001:2011.
