Energy Conservation by Way of Energy Regeneration in 3-Phase Electric Locos

General Manager, NCR, Shri M.C. Chauhan while appreciating excellent performance of Loco Pilots of all the three divisions of North Central Railway in the field of electrical energy regeneration in 3-phase electric locos running over NCR, has sanctioned individual cash award for 10 of them. It is worth mentioning that 3-phase Locomotives have a unique useful facility of converting mechanical energy of the trains into electrical energy during braking which otherwise would have gone wasted. Loco Pilots have been encouraged to maximise use of this facility available in these locomotives. As a result, energy regeneration to the tune of 15.0% of total energy consumed by these locomotives has been achieved over NCR. A record saving of about 9 crs. units of energy by way of energy regeneration has been achieved during 2017-18 over NCR, which is highest over Indian Railways.
