Energy conservation in an industry through controlled DC drives

摘要

In an industry, a good percentage of electrical equipment at the critical load zone run either at no load or low load to cope up with any emergency situation. A portion of these may be DC motors. It has been observed theoretically and practically that if a DC motor runs at no load, the speed of the machine can be kept fairly constant near its rated value by reducing the applied voltage and controlling the field current. In this paper, these theoretical and experimental observations have been presented. The results show that a good amount of energy can be saved in doing so.
