Assessing the Influence on Groundwater Quality by Treated Effluent Discharges From Pulp and Paper Mill

The study deals with the assessment of infulence on groundwater quality in and around the pulp and paper mill where its treated effluent is mixed up with river water and the mixed water is extensively used for agri-irrigation purposes. The samples ware collected upstream and downstream and analysed for physico-chemical and biological parameters to check whether the ground water quality is affected by the usage of such water. The assessment revealed that at few locations both upstream and downstream the ground water is not potable but appears that it is influenced by local hydrogeological conditions than the external causes, such as treated effluent mix up with ri-ver water.
