摘要

The mass attenuation coefficient is the basic quantity used in calculations of the penetration and the energy deposition by photons (x-ray, γ-ray, bremsstrahlung) in biological, shielding and other materials. The nature of the soils of earth and mars were theoretically investigated using mass attenuation coefficients. The x-ray fluorescence analysis results of 3 different earth soils for low Z elements commonly found in major and minor quantities in soil and rock were compared with 3 soils and 2 rock samples of mars analyzed by alpha spectrometry. Detailed results are discussed. Similarities regarding the environment of 2 planets are investigated.
