Greenpeace demands stay on new coal min- ing

Greenpeace, a non-profit organisation working on environmental issues in various countries, has demanded a moratorium on all new mining until proper impact assessment is done. It released a report on displacement and destruction by coal mining in Singrauli region. According to Munna Jha of Greenpeace, the report is the outcome of a fact-finding mission organised in July 2011 andrndocuments the impacts of unbridled coal mining and thermal power plants on the environment and the people of the region.
