ROLE OF FIELD-KITS FOR SAFETY OF DRINKING WATER DURING EMERGENCIES

The drinking water must be wholesome (without pathogens, toxic and high organic materials). Since the wholesomeness cannot be judged through our physical senses, we rely on palatability (without turbidity, colour, taste and odour). An unpalatable (though wholesome) water drives the public to alternative sources of water which are most often dangerous (not wholesome) and the public gets exposed to dangers of various kinds of disorders. During water treatment, the cost component goes as high as 80 to 90% to make the water palatable.
