Hollowcore manufacture and factory design

This paper is intended to provide guidance only. It provides an outline of the main considerations in the initial planning of a hollowcore plant, as well as the production processes from extrusion through to quality control. The information presented is based on the experience gained over 40 years. The paper goes on to demonstrate why hollowcore is an economical and favourable option for low cost start-ups that allow for future growth to match demand in the market. Additionally it will illustrate how a high standard of product can be reached via thorough planning and the correct procedures implemented at all stages of the process. The paper will also show that the versatility of hollowcore means it can be used for a variety of purposes, with applications for floors, roofs and wall panels being the most common. Also some of the more innovative producers have found uses for hollowcore in such projects as parking decks, bridge deck (permanent forms), basement walls, retaining walls, pedestrian bridges and parapet walls (air displacement).
