Danny Popkin had started his career at the BBC in 1977, as a camera operator, next working in lighting and SFX electronics, before moving into technical design. He developed the first Digital Wide Screen Studio, and in 1994 started work on Virtual Studios. In the course of the Friday Tour, the delegates had enjoyed a visit to BBC White City, where Danny had demonstrated their virtual studio system, and he now presented a background lecture on the subject.
