In the first week of November, Take 2 Film Services received their first ARRICAM Lite Camera, serial number 002. It did not get to sit on the shelf for long - one week later it was launched, that is, sent down to Exmouth to photograph the new recruitment commercial for the Royal Marines Commando Unit. The job initially entailed some underwater photography in the tanks at Bray Studios, and then continued for three days in Exmouth. This demanded a down and dirty documentary style action clip that realistically captures the rough atmosphere and somewhat harsh conditions that a Marine will be expected to endure, hence the "99.9 % need not apply" warning during the one minute film. The ARRICAM Lite was really put to the test on its first sortie, dashing through wet, muddy, overgrown swamp-like fields, rocky terrain and deep puddles, Czech Director of Photography, Jan Velicky claims he didn't even know the camera was available when Vince Wild at Take 2 offered it to him, but when he learned it was one of the first in the U.K., he became eager to try it out. "To be honest, I prefer studio work with a calm environment where I am concentrating on the lighting and have maximum control. This was much more like a documentary where you are catching the moments."
