A review of the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method isnpresented and then employed to model and predict the radiation patternsnof three basic configurations of mobile antennas. The directive gain andnthe input impedance are also calculated. The antennas' configurationsnconsidered are a quarter-wavelength monopole mounted on a conductingnbox, a bent-slot half-wavelength dipole flush mounted on a conductingnbox, and a quarter-wavelength monopole mounted on the top of annautomobile. Three-feed models are discussed and the contour integral isnused to model the wire antenna. Transformation of the near field data,nresulting from the FDTD, to obtain the radiation patterns is discussednbased on the equivalence principle. The radiation patterns obtainednusing the FDTD compare well with published results
