This paper provides a framework for error rate performancenanalysis of maximal ratio combining multichannel reception of coherentnM-ary phase-shift keying (MPSK) systems over slowly fading channels.nEach channel is described by a two-sided discrete model with correlatedncomplex Gaussian taps based on bandlimiting an underlying WSSUS physicalnchannel. The resulting “resolved channel” performancenevaluation incorporates the inherent multipath resolution taking intonaccount the fact that phase recovery operates on the resolved main path.nThe received phase-density function is developed. Conditional bit andnsymbol error probabilities are determined and the cases for whichnclosed-form or acceptable numerical solutions exist are delineated. Annew efficient and accurate recursive solution for the Ricean-fading mainnresolved path case is presented, which is applicable to both the flatnand frequency selective cases. A progressive intersymbol interferencen(ISI) bound is discussed for the frequency selective case to minimizencomputation. Examples using the maritime high-data rate line-of-sightn(LOS) channel model demonstrate the framework versatility and thenability to simultaneously investigate the important parameters in thenfrequency selective environment
