Design of an integrated database for a multiplant cablemanufacturer

The need to manage business operations effectively on anninternational scale is becoming critically important. Around the worldnfirms are mobilizing to meet increasing global competition rapidly bynredirecting, reorganizing, expanding, and relocating operations, ornthrough joint ventures with other companies. One area that faces thesenchallenges is the cables industry, wherein the need for integratedninformation systems covering various platforms of operations andnadequate communication, is necessary for survival in the global market.nAn integrated information systems network has been designed for a largencable manufacturing facility, consisting of four plants, namely powerncables plant, telecommunication cables plant, metal and plastics plant,nand reel plant. This network covers the manufacturing, materialnmanagement, customer orders, marketing and finance processes for each ofnthe above named plants. Various processes have been integrated employingncomputer-aided systems engineering (CASE) tools and ORACLE relationalndatabase. The unified integrated information systems network has beennrealized employing optical rings, local area networks, and client-servernarchitectures distributed across the various plants
