Breakdown effects in thin polymer foils irradiated with partially penetrating monoenergetic electron beams are discussed. A portion of the foils carried protective coatings of p-SiO/sub 2/ and p-Si/sub 3/N/sub 4/. It was found that these coatings suppress or at least strongly reduce breakdown pulses occurring during irradiation, but do not prevent delayed pulses occurring after termination of the irradiation.
