Nonlinear optics: past, present, and future

摘要

A historic introduction, describing the emergence of a new subfield of optics in the years 1961 and 1962, is followed by an overview of topics in nonlinear optics, which enjoy particular scientific or technological interest in the year 2000 and which hold promise for further developments in the 21st century.
