摘要

A description is given of the design, integration, and implementation of an energy management system (EMS) by Electricidade de Portugal (EDP), using some nontraditional methods that provided a high degree of collaboration, efficiency, and flexibility. EDP power characteristics, optimal meter placement, and the performance of automatic generation control in the presence of low-baud-rate communications were considered early in the design process. EDP's system architecture was also considered in overall EMS design. The key to efficient implementation was to separate, distribute, and execute simultaneously as many of the time-consuming tasks as possible.
