ICAO circular examines ways to minimize aircraft fuel use and reduce emissions

A number of opportunities exist for reducing the amount of fuel consumed by the world's jet transport fleet. The most significant fuel saving is likely to be achieved through global implementation of CNS/ATM systems, but various operating procedures can often provide the most efficient, and usually most immediate, way of minimizing CO_2 emissions from aviation. ICAO has published a circular which focuses on the various operational opportunities and techniques for minimizing aircraft fuel consumption, and hence emissions, in civil aviation operations. The new circular, Operational Opportunities to Minimize Fuel Use and Reduce Emissions (Circular 303), identifies and provides practical examples of specific actions that can be taken by major air transport stakeholders to minimize fuel consumption.
