Council President addresses meeting of South American civil aviation authorities, meets with government leaders

The unified strategy to resolve safety-related deficiencies adopted by the ICAO Assembly last year strongly promotes the concept of regional or subregional safety oversight organizations, ICAO Council President Dr. Assad Kotaite informed participants of the 9th meeting of the Civil Aviation Authorities of the South American Region in his opening address on 18 April. "Because of their inherent economies of scale and promotion of uniformity, regional safety oversight bodies can greatly help States in complying with their obligations under the Chicago Convention," the President underscored.
