Ecological aspects of operating mechanical equipment of navigation locks

With the development of society ecological problems are arising in all areas of human activity, the urgency of solving which is constantly increasing. Examining the operation of hydraulic structures from this standpoint, we must pay special attention to pressure hydraulic structures and mainly to navigation locks widespread in our country and abroad. Not touching on the impact of a lock as a whole as an element of a hydro development on the aquatic environment, i.e., ecological problem related to a change in the hydrostatic and hydrodynamic regimes of operating the water basin, we will limit ourselves to an examination of the operation of mechanical equipment of a lock and its effect on the environment.
