Flat gates of water-development works are used to cover surface and deep water-intake openings in dams, navigation openings in locks and canal lifts, and the openings of water-conducting galleries for the filling and emptying of chambers in shipping locks. The span structure of flat gates is a water-impermeable lining supported on a box formed from horizontal and vertical stiffeners. The horizontal stiffeners - cross -bars - are supported by their own ends on supporting carriages that are displaced in recesses.
