New Turbine Technology: Improving Plant Performance and Water Quality

In the early 1990s, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers launched a multi-million-dollar, 20-year rehabilitation pro gram for its aging hydro projects. The work at one of those projects, 280-MW J. Strom Thurmond on the Georgia-South Carolina border, illustrates how new technology improves equipment reliability and efficiency, while enhancing environmental protection.
