Perspectives on Hydropower: Federal Organizations Share Views

Key leaders within four federal government agencies that either operate hydropower plants or market the electricity from these plants share their organizations' views on current and future hydro issues. The federal government is the single largest producer of hydropower in the U.S. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Department of the Interior's Bureau of Reclamation, and the Tennessee Valley Authority collectively own and operate a total of approximately 38,000 MW of hydroelectric capacity. The Bonneville Power Administration, the largest federal wholesale power marketing administration in the U.S., supplies people and businesses in the Pacific Northwest with nearly half of their electricity supply and 80 percent of the region's large electricity transmission lines.
