The licensee of the 600-MW Bear Swamp pumped-storage plant plans to add 66 MW of capacity through equipment upgrades to the plant, on the Deer- field River in Massachusetts. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approved the expansion plan in an order amending the project operating license, held by Bear Swamp Power Co. LLC. The project features the 600-MW pumped-storage plant and a second plant, 10-MW Fife Brook.
