The first generating unit at Manitoba Hydro's 200-MW Wuskwatim plant on the Burntwood River in northern Manitoba was officially opened in July.The C$1.35 billion (US»1.33 billion project), which is a joint development of Manitoba Hydro and the Nisichawaya-sihk Cree Nation, will eventually feature three generators. Work on the facility began in August 2006, and all three units are expected to be in operation by the end of 2012, the company says.
