About US$8 million is available in funding to spur innovation in next-generation marine hydrokinetic (MHK) control and component technologies, according to a January announcement from the U.S. Department of Energy. The "Holy Grail" within MHK development is reducing the risk and length of time from project conception to commercial viability. DOE plans to select no more than five projects on which to improve MHK performance and reduce the technical risks of the technology.
