The province of Ontario intends to sign a seven-year hydroelectric power purchase deal with the neighboring province of Quebec while repairs are made to the Darlington nuclear plant. The agreement will reportedly have a minimum impact on Ontario's utility rates, al though it is expected to save the province about US$750,000 and reduce a million tonnes of carbon emissions annually over the alternative, natural gas.
