Mozambique awards study of 180 mw on Lurio River

National utility Electricidade de Mozambique (EDM) awarded a contract to Black & Veatch International of the United States to study developing at least two hydropower projects on Mozambique's Lurio River totaling 180 mw. The feasibility study is being funded by a US$597,960 grant to Mozambique from the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (TDA). A TDA definitional mission report in 2005 recommended a study of developing the proposed 120-mw Quedas and 60-mw Ocua hydro-power projects on the Lurio River, with the possible substitution of a comparable Lurio 1 project for the Ocua site.
