A declaration by the UK government that the South West of the country is to be designated the first Marine Energy Park suggests that, while ocean energy technologies are largely in early development if not infancy, their place in the future global energy mix is all but assured. According to a statement from the UK's Department of Energy and Climate Change, the South West Marine Energy Park will stretch from Bristol through to Cornwall and as far as the Isles of Scilly, creating a collaborative partnership between national and local government, Local Enterprise Partnerships, the universities of Plymouth and Exeter, and industry. The aim of the partnership will be to speed the progress of marine power development.
