The Harmony of Basic and Applied Fish Biology: Two Groups Working as a Team at Goedoelloe

Hungary has been one of the strongholds of fish breeding in Central Europe since the second half of the last century. However, the Hungarian traditions and achievements in aquaculture are well respected in the whole of Europe and outside of it as well. Hungarian scientists and fish breeding experts (such as T. Dubich, E. Unger, Prof. E. Woynarowich, A. Antalfi, I. Toelg and many others) made very important discoveries in the field of pond farming of cyprinids. Moreover, they have pioneered the development and utilization of a complex procedure for breeding these species. The knowhow of this process was then distributed to dozens of countries on various continents and adapted to other species, helping to ease the food shortage of developing nations.
