Prevention is the magic formula of recent decades. It is understandable: it offers people the opportunity to avoid suffering and state economies the opportunity to save money. But prevention makes sense only if we know what causes the undesirable phenomenon or at least what contributes to its origination. The reproductive medicine itself is a proof of our very low knowledge on the causes of infertility: therapy does not cure but bypass causes in most cases. We know that strong smoking, obesity, STI, strong exposures to some chemical substances contribute to origination of infertility. But prevention made “at random” can increase the feelings of guilt of the couple and the inflow of “good advice” from the surroundings.
