Application for Registration of Protected Geographic Indication

The "GATT" amendments to the Trade-marks Act, proclaimed into force on January 1, 1996, indicate that the Registrar will supervise the retention of a list of protected geographical indications respecting wines and spirits. rnAn application is to be filed. Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) will work with Industry Canada to implement the process. Presumably the Minister will require, as a minimum, the information needed to publish in the Canada Gazette.This application will be reviewed by AAFC, and only if found acceptable will a recommendation be made to Industry Canada to add the geographical indication to a list to be published in the Canada Gazette for objection, if any.
